In this garden, known around the world for its beauty and view of the splendid Table Mountain, you will discover a 36 hectare forest with the largest African plant collection.

Kirstenbosch was created in 1913 to preserve and showcase the extremely rich and diversified South African flora. This was the world’s first botanical garden dedicated to a country’s indigenous plant life. You can discover this green space by walking along its trails: you will find 528 hectares of very diverse flora and natural forest, which includes a 36 hectare plantation of South African species.

Here there is also a regular programme of open air exhibitions and performances. On summer Sunday evenings, you can enjoy open air concerts with the best South African and international artists.

The Botanical garden is also home to a library, a research centre, an educational centre and the headquarters of the South African National Biodiversity Institute.

We suggest you visit between December and March - the dry season - so you can enjoy a more pleasant visit. The whole area is adapted to people with special needs.
